Comfy & Chic

Shirt: Forever 21
Skirt: Topshop
Necklace: Forever 21

I really like being comfortable in what I wear, but at the same time I also like looking chic. So I chose to pair this comfy neon tee with a black maxi skirt. I feel this t-shirt is nice, as it has a little pocket and it is tied at the end as well. The black maxi skirt is really comfy as well but looks chic and makes me look taller, and being 5'5" I could use the help! I also added this simple necklace as I felt that it fit with this look because it is simple yet still edgy. I chose to wear this look on a day when it was nice and sunny and warm but there was still a nice breeze playing through. This was perfect for that weather!

lace and gold

white lace crop top forever 21 // similar here / here / here
gold shimmer skirt h&m // similar here
shoes from browns
necklace the bay
gold bangles from india

I love the combination of white and gold.  Even when it comes to Indian wear, instead of being drawn to all the bright and colourful outfits, I'm usually prefer the white and gold or black and gold combinations.   This white lace crop top is one of my favourite purchases this summer.  And now that it seems that summer is here to stay (at least for now) I'm sure it will be making a lot of appearances in my outfits.  Since i like keeping things simple, I kept the accessorizing of this outfit simple, by adding a few white and gold accessories.

How to do Pattern on Pattern

The recent runway trend has been graced with an array of patterns on patterns. Everything from florals, stripes, polka dots have been paired together. As nice as they are on Runway, often styled in an ideal way, its hard to get the right combination for every day wear without looking overwhelming or miss-matched.

Dries Van Noten, F2011, www.style.com
Its important to remember two things when it comes to what you're going to wear in general; 1.Comfort (in  terms of physical feel & confidence)
2. Simplicity, in the sense that even something like pattern on pattern has a basic form.
This basic/stripped down form of this very busy and loud fashion trend will help you in paring the right patterns together.

Keep the base colour the same, add at most one more colour, and wear as little jewellery as possible (which can also be the additional colour). Keeping the base colour the same of the shirt and skirt allowed in creating a unified look, the additional colour of neon green added another dimension to the outfit and the silver necklace complimented the outfit with out overwhelming it.

So, if there is anything to remember about pattern on pattern it is to keep it simple, which is done in two ways. Firstly, to keep it in its basic form, which is to have the base colours the same. Secondly, to add as little as possible in terms of jewellery or additional colours.

Simplicity is key, because after all the patterns are already doing all the work!

Top 10 Road-Trip Songs

Its that time of year again when everyone is itching to get out of town and embark on an adventure. And, like all other great and memorable moments in life, this one also deserves  a soundtrack. So in no particular order, here are the top 10 road trip songs in my opinion:

Honourable mention (or if you're just looking for a longer playlist)

leopard skin pill box hat

h&m shirt
h&m high waist skirt
Aldo shoes
necklace from The Bay

yes I know that I'm not wearing a leopard skin pill box hat (although it would be pretty cool to have one), but for some odd reason when I wear this h&m shirt that song starts playing in my head.  It's a song that makes me smile and laugh to myself each time I hear it.  I just love the way Bob Dylan sings that song and love the music to it. What songs make you smile?

easy guacamole recipe

Guacamole has become my absolute favourite recently. This recipe is so quick and easy that I end up making it at least once or twice a week and add it to many meals, whether its to my scrambled eggs and toast in the morning, in my burger, or as a snack with some tortilla chips. Not only is it delicious but it's healthy too!

Cilantro is another one of my favourites, so it's only natural that the ingredients of this guacamole recipe includes cilantro which adds great flavor to it. Now cilantro wasn't always one of my favourites.  Growing up in a household where Indian food was a staple, I grew up with lots of cilantro. Cilantro or dhaniya is added to many South Asian dishes as a garnish or seasoning.  For some reason, it just wasn't my thing up until I would say 5-6 years ago, where I just fell in love with it and now love adding it to everything.  I have found that is the story for many dishes, vegetables, or flavours for me.  I grew up not liking them, and when I tried the same thing when I was older, I loved it!

Simple Guacamole

3 ripe avocados*
1/2 jalapeno seeded, minced
1 tomato diced
1/2 onion diced or 5-6 green onions chopped
1/4 cup cilantro chopped
2 tbsp lime juice
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/8 tsp salt or add to taste
pinch of black pepper
pinch of ground cayenne pepper or add to taste

  1. Peel and mash avocados in a medium serving bowl
  2. Add lime juice, garlic powder, ground cumin, salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper and mix
  3.  Add in the rest of the ingredients, jalapeno, tomato, onion, and cilantro, and mix
  4. Done! Refrigerate or serve immediately with some tortilla chips

    * it is important that the avocados are ripe and not firm
