How to do Pattern on Pattern

The recent runway trend has been graced with an array of patterns on patterns. Everything from florals, stripes, polka dots have been paired together. As nice as they are on Runway, often styled in an ideal way, its hard to get the right combination for every day wear without looking overwhelming or miss-matched.

Its important to remember two things when it comes to what you're going to wear in general; 1.Comfort (in  terms of physical feel & confidence)
2. Simplicity, in the sense that even something like pattern on pattern has a basic form.
This basic/stripped down form of this very busy and loud fashion trend will help you in paring the right patterns together.

Keep the base colour the same, add at most one more colour, and wear as little jewellery as possible (which can also be the additional colour). Keeping the base colour the same of the shirt and skirt allowed in creating a unified look, the additional colour of neon green added another dimension to the outfit and the silver necklace complimented the outfit with out overwhelming it.

So, if there is anything to remember about pattern on pattern it is to keep it simple, which is done in two ways. Firstly, to keep it in its basic form, which is to have the base colours the same. Secondly, to add as little as possible in terms of jewellery or additional colours.

Simplicity is key, because after all the patterns are already doing all the work!
