Its always hard when you're travelling in hot countries and rushing from train stations to museums to archaeological sites to shops to excursions to look your best and even more to look your best and be comfortable. I devised a system that involved getting to dress up and be comfortable in what I was wearing for any situation that my travels could possibly have me in.
Simple: wake up early and wear your laid-back clothes for the days worth of site-seeing and what not, come back to the hotel during the hot hours of the day, shower, nap and doll up for a light stroll and well deserved dinner or night out (I find this schedule works with the Mediterranean really well as locals will tend to shutdown shop in the midday).
This is one of my evening looks in Rome. My sisters and my best friend, who lives in Italy for work, got together on the Quirinal Hill to watch the sunset (tested and verified best spot to view the sunset in Rome). Excuse the windy-esque pictures!
Top: Forever 21
Maxi: Topshop
Shoes: Merrell
Earrings: retro, my mother's
Necklace: Forever 21
Now, dont judge! I know Merrell's are not the fashion statement shoes that go with an evening outfit but this is the greatest advice I can give to anyone: when travelling always pack good shoes and by good, I mean Merrells--it will save you a lot of pain and increase your walking mileage and therefore, maximize site-seeing capacity and fun!

I love this look! It's so hard to have busy days sightseeing and running around while being comfortable AND looking cute. And I agree--nothing is better than a midday rest/refresh before a long delicious dinner :) I hope you are having a marvelous time in Rome!! xx
