top 3 gelatos in rome

We are introducing a new series based on our trip to Rome, Naples and Capri, where we will be discussing everything from food to travel tips! Here is the first of our series and what better to start with than Gelatos! When its too hot and you've been walking around since 9 am Gelatos are the best solution to everything --and I mean everything (aching feet, back and knees, hunger or even lack of hunger, over stimulation or not enough the list goes on!) Since we are avid Gelato consumers anyways (check out our Gelato post in Vancouver) we obviously were up to the challenge of finding the best Gelatos in Rome (and believe me we had many!) Here are our top 3:

1. Giolitti : This much hyped and very famous gelateria from Audrey Hepburn's and Gregory Peck's Roman Holiday is worth the fame and name. Not only are the Gelatos great the interior is phenomenal with a 50's classy feel. Word of caution, you'll have to pay to sit inside--but a gelato is best eaten when outside to people watch! This is also the oldest ice cream parlour in Rome--definitely a good visit! 2. Gelato di San Crispino: This was lauded as the best-Gelato-you-will-ever-have-type-place and guess what--it was the best gelato we ever had! So much so we went back twice! Its a few streets down from the Trevi fountain and the line up goes outside the narrow shop and out but its stracciatella is worth the wait! Caution, it is pricey! 3. Gelateria Valentino: This gelateria gave a nice, small, homely feeling but at the same time is located off the Trevi Fountain so easy to access. The atmosphere is friendly and the gelato is also fresh!

Stay tuned for more Italy Travel Tips coming up on the blog!

Friday Finds

  1. Everyone that knows me, knows that I love reading. I have a big book shelf covering an entire wall in my bedroom.  But currently I am really busy doing research and writing my masters thesis  and don't have time to read novels, so I was glad to come across this list of short stories/pieces by some of my fav authors!
  2. The Khoobsurat trailer is finally out! For all you fairytale, romance comedy, bollywood, sonam kapoor, and fawad khan lovers this is THE MOVIE for you. As you all know we love sonam kapoor on this blog, but we are also huge fawad khan (pakistani actor) fans and this is his bollywood debut.
  3. Kimonos are everywhere this summer and we love this trend. I am in love with this Kimono, the colours of it is so beautiful!
  4. We grew up playing super mario brothers and currently own the new super mario brothers for the wii.  I got a good laugh watching this Indian Mario youtube video, it's a mix of bollywood with super mario, perfect for me!
  5. And since renovations are in full swing I'm already thinking about new pieces we can add to the new space. I've fallen in love with this rug from anthropologie
THANKS everyone for the support so far, you can also follow along here, let us know in the comments you have followed and on what medium, we will follow back:

a statement shirt for all occasions

When I was in Greece I picked up this shirt from Mykonos with the help of my American-Greek friend's bargaining skills for €20-- a gem of a find! This shirt is perfect for sunny lazy days when you dont want to dress up but you still want to look dressed up. I sometimes pair it with skinny jeans or like in this case with a skirt, it works with basically anything and for any occasion or mood!

maxi dress with crop top

maxi dress: The Gap (outlet store)
crop top: Forever 21
sunnies: night market find

This summer has been filled with two things for me: my thesis for grad school and renovating the house.  When I'm not doing renovation related things I'm sitting there in piles of books and papers researching and writing away.  So what I'm trying to say is that the theme of this summer for me is maxi dresses because I found them to be the most comfortable when I'm dealing with tiles, floor samples, and paint chips on one hand, and books and papers on the other hand!
This maxi dress was a lucky find for me at the outlet store of the Gap.  I was immediately drawn to it for its bright colour and pattern.  I paired it with a fun crop top just to change it up a bit.

the perfect kimono jacket for the summer

The summer can be at times deceiving. Although in Vancouver with current record breaking temperatures the nights have been fairly warm--indoors that is. So this kimono jacket works so nicely as a light throw on for a day out that goes into the evening. Everyone knows, the uncomfortableness you feel when you are cold is unnerving...even though I would rather be super cold than super hot...or would I? I dont know, I digress! Anyways, it can all be confusing is my point and so this kimono jacket helps avoid all the confusion...at least for me!

Kimono jacket: Forever 21
White collared top: Forever 21
Pants: H&M
Purse: Primark
Shoes: Aldo
Necklace: Richmond night market

finds: dolce amore gelateria

Dolce Amore Gelateria is in the heart of "Little Italy" in the cultural, diverse and lively East Vancouver/ Commercial Drive area. It is family run for 4 generations and a part of what makes this neighbourhood unique. The gelato is impeccable and takes me back to my last summer spent in Italy living off of gelato and the selection of sorbetto and gelato is fit for many different tastes!

casual outfit for a busy day

This week has been packed, with renovation shopping (we have been to at least 10 different tile/backsplash places) to throwing a surprise birthday party for our grandfather and then enjoying the amazing weather in vancouver---let's just say it's been a fun filled busy week. So this is my casual outfit for a busy day of renovation shopping.  These pants are super comfortable for the heat I wore them quite a lot when I was in Greece last summer and this twiggy shirt is a relic of my time in London as a student.

Shirt: Paper doll
Pants: H&M
Purse: Primark
Shoes: Aldo
Sunglasses: retro

finds: caffe cittadella

In Vancouver, Heritage Houses are the architectural, historical and personable aspect of the city--but when you spend your life thinking "I wish I could afford to live in one of those later in my life" and realize that the city's decreasing affordability rate is only getting more and more unaffordable at least you can eat and have a chai latte in one as consolation. This caffe is in the vibrant Cambie Village of Vancouver and a hidden gem among the new developments that have arisen in the last few years, I am glad we stumbled upon it after our visit to fireplace places as a part of our renovations.

a new look for me: socks and sandals

Renovations have got the best of me as of lately ( a renovation post coming soon!) but its nice to step outside of your dirty work clothes and all-consuming world of patterns, tiles, interior design talk and dress up for a nice dinner. This outfit is both casual and dressed up, and as I have stated in the past I am all about the comfort and stylish combination! This is the first time I have paired sandals with socks, I am still not entirely won over by the idea but felt it worked with this outfit.

summer casual maxi dress with chambray shirt

maxi dress: forever 21similar here
chambray shirt: old navy similar on sale!
bird necklace: richmond night market
bow ring: richmond night market
sandals: birkenstocks

The support on our new blog has been amazing! We really appreciate it. After having a successful run with our old blog (count to four) and then a dreaded hiatus, it's great to know that we have some great loyal readers that have followed us to this new venture! (also I've since chopped more than half my hair off)
My ultimate summer casual go to is a maxi dress with a chambray shirt. I know lots of people pair their maxi dress with a denim jacket, for some reason I prefer a chambray shirt over my maxi than a denim jacket. I feel that Old Navy is a great place to go for some staples for a great price. Whether it be this chambray shirt or even plain tees! If you follow us on Twitter you would know that we headed out to the richmond market the other night. This bow ring and bird necklace were my finds! What is your go to summer casual wear?
