back to basics

Somewhere along the way life becomes all too consuming with the wrong things, it becomes about acquiring more, moving ahead, consuming more and it takes a toll on you.  Sometimes we need to take the time to look around ourselves, observe our surroundings, and question if these are the people you want to be surrounded with, if this is the lifestyle you want to live, and if having all these things really matter.  In a way age as taught me to declutter. Declutter my life and live a simpler life. At times that might be difficult because I can have an anxious mind but that is the exact thing that is prescribed for such a mind.

Just as in life, I have been finding myself decluttering my wardrobe. sticking to basics and neutrals than trendy pieces that come and go.  Basics and neutrals can be so versatile and last forever.  They end up being the most valuable pieces in the long run and somehow they make putting together an outfit much easier.

Sometimes we hold onto things for too long, and it feels better to let go and simplify.  This look is an ode to that. An ode to simplifying and purchasing what I need or absolutely desire.  A plain white dress, with a neutral long cardigan and some black classic sneakers. you can never go wrong with that!

  1. I love your sentiments about keeping things minimal & classic! I totally agree. It feels so refreshing to just stick to the basics. There's a reason they have staying power and come back time and time again.

I love your blog layout and pictures. So clean & crisp!
    Have a great week,

  2. I agree, the basics are where it's at. They're evergreen and they make my closet feel cleaner.

  9. I like to keep things simple too. This is a great choice. If I wore dresses, I'd probably wear something like this, but I'm a slacks kind of lady. lol

  10. "Neutrals" should be my middle name... I love investing in good, basic pieces that I know will constantly need to pull from my wardrobe in order to complete an outfit. Loving your look!

    Stay fab,

  12. I love this post! I made the effort to become a minimalist a few months back but didn't do enough research. Apparently it's not just about doing a wardrobe overhaul, but more about investing in quality neutrals that can be mixed and matched. Lesson learned! ;-)

  16. This is exactly what has been running through my head for the past few months -- ridding myself off the things I don't need in my life, things that'll, in the long run, be a burden. Keeping one's wardrobe minimal and classic is something I try to apply my own closet as much as possible, too. There's nothing better than a crisp button down, or a clean white dress, a classic midi or some simple flats. I'm loving this look, and I'm loving your sentiments, too.

Have a lovely week, the both of you.

  17. That cardigan's great! It looks stylish and comfortable at the same time. If you have a few classic pieces in your wardrobe, you can easily update them with accessories and just add a few cheaper items each season.
