10 Simple Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Life

I want to take you guys back to this post, remember it? I can't believe it was almost a year ago! On the blog I consciously want to continue on the trend of being honest and more open, and so I have decided to share a little bit about my year on here.

This year has been about stopping, pausing life, and focusing on myself, both mentally and physically. I was putting weight on things that were taking a toll on me like academics, mapping out a career and pleasing others.  In it all I got buried so deep that I lost a sense of myself and in a way forgot about my health and sanity.  My body gave me so many signs, but I kept on pushing through because that is what I always did. Then the beginning of this year I got hit really hard. My body and mind said no more and I found myself completely drained and burnt out. I couldn't push through anymore.

So this year has been about pausing all those things and really re-evaluating all aspects of my life. Although it's not always easy, I have been making "baby steps" and in the end I have to understand that it is a process and that too a long one. So being patient is the key in all of this. Somedays are easier than others, some tasks are easier to tackle and sometimes I am on a roll for a few weeks and then sometimes I fall off the wagon, steer off course and find everything, even the simplest of things, difficult. So I wanted to share a realistic approach. It isn't seamless and I do struggle with it on most days, but on other days it can make the difference.

My biggest takeaway has been that when all the other signs fail, depend on your body to tell you when to pause, reflect, reassess, reenergize and restart.

I have put together a list of some of the things I have been incorporating on my journey to improve my quality of life this year. Almost all of these things were new to me and missing in my life before.

These have been my 10 simple ways to improve the quality of my life:

1. Going on brisk walks  
2. Yoga
3. Eating healthier 
5. Becoming more self aware 
6. Incorporated relaxing techniques into routine - taking a bath, drinking tea at night, unwinding with an novel
7. Self care - taking time out for myself 
8. Learning to say no 
9. Going to a naturopath, going to the doctor, get the appropriate treatments and medications
10. Loosening up, not being a perfectionist and just letting go.

  7. Of course yoga is number one for me, but self-awareness has been huge too. I've made some changes recently that should've happened so long ago. It all started with listening to my soul rather than the clatter around me, or even my fears. Amazingly, life feels easier now and things are just aligning. Thanks for this great list!
