Friday Finds

Friday Finds is a series that Footnotes and Finds runs every friday where we share interesting, informative and fun finds/links from around the web. Follow along!

1. Eman Mohammed is one of the few female journalists in the Gaza strip and she uses the platform of Ted talks to tell her incredible story of breaking cultural boundaries and working in a volatile area.

2.  Loving this, this and this ring, good stocking stuffers!

3. This video went viral this week, for good reason. It showcases women and girls sharing sexist comments that they have received throughout their life that men never have to hear. Im sure some of our female readers can relate.

4. As of recently White Privilege has become a pop-culture term and rightly so. But some people still find the concept hard to understand and believe. This video , starring SNL comedian Sasheer Zamata, explains privilege in a comedic but informative manner, making it one of the most must watch videos on the internet right now!

5. Everyone has different Christmas movie traditions. Growing up we watched Christopher the Christmas tree with my favourite character hooty the owl! This happened because it came on YTV every Christmas and it just became something we looked forward to every year. Its just a heartfelt underdog story that teaches patience and self-value.

This week on Friday Finds

1. Identity Crisis
2. My December Playlist
3. Holiday Gift Guide Under $50
4. Como and Milan: Outfit Diary

From the Archives

  1. I hadn't watched that video and it's inspiring, I really love that kind of videos that open your eyes and make you think about what the real situation is. I was bullied at school by boys all the time because I'm an athlete and I used to run more than they, so they always said that I was manly, that I must be lesbian, that I was not a girl because as I did athletics I didn't have boobs. Nowadays, I've grown up and athletics have shaped my body in an attrative way (at least I feel that way) and whenever I get catcalled or a random guy goes like "whoa" when they look my long muscular legs I remember those times.
Thanks for sharing this! I have just discovered your blog but I'm definately follow you!
I hope you have a great day xx

    1. thank you for sharing your story. I can tell you that I myself relate to it. I also grew up very athletic and with an athletic build and muscles on which a lot of comments were made by various people in my life. I am so happy to hear you are comfortable in your own body and can say that so am I! thanks again for sharing :)

  2. I love all these finds! I showed the video on white privilege to my undergrad students a few weeks ago and it was a great way to talk to them about privilege and intersectionality in a way that was relatable. I also loved that Ted talk by Eman Mohammed. Thanks for sharing!
