Friday Finds

1. Your adult siblings may hold the secret to a long and happy life according to this article.  We are two sisters that run this blog and we are also best friends even though there is an age difference of nearly 4 years. Some of you may not know this, but we have 2 other sisters, both of whom are younger than us and together, the four of us have always been enough (we should say at this point that that doesn't mean we don't love our friends, we do...we love you all). This article is a different spin on sibling relationships as it looks at adults as opposed to the common studies on child-sibling relationships.

2. Since it's black friday check out some of these items on sale:

T-shirt dress at Nordstrom - Save 55%
Blanket Poncho at Nordstrom - Save 55%
Sleeveless Shift Dress at Nordstrom - Save 55%

3. There is nothing more mesmerizing than watching paint, oil, water and soap swirling around and creating vivid imagery that mimics the geographical variances of the earth and our solar system to a beautiful background score. This video, titled Odyssey, is by Rus Khasanov and if you like this video the please take the time to view his other works--its worth the time!

4. This would make the perfect Christmas gift for any music lover, oh and so would these!

5. Lastly this is a really cool heat-map of the world that tells you where all the people with your last name live and other interesting information. So plug in your last name and find out more!

Essential Oils Guide: When and How to Use Essential Oils

Over the last few years I have consciously decided to have more of a holistic approach when addressing my health issues.  This has led to various paths, like  taking supplements, seeing a naturopath, taking supplements, going to yoga, trying out meditation and making drastic changes in my diet.  Expanding my horizon, when it comes to approaching my ailments, has led me to veer off the path of frustration that I would hit over and over again with my health.

My biggest take away is that along with western medicine and seeing your GP, it's important to explore and be open to other approaches when it comes to your health. Essential oils is in that category of supplementing my regular methods.  I have just started to dabble into the world of essential oils. The first step for me, when approaching a new method, is always to research and get as much information on it. Below we have shared a very informative infographic on essential oils which will help you understand when and how to use essential oils.

In short essential oils aid in physical and emotional wellbeing.  They are usually distilled from various plants and organic material such as seeds, flowers and leaves. There are a few different ways to use them. They can be applied topically on the skin, inhaled using various methods, or lastly with the supervision of a physician they can be ingested.  Essential oils can be greatly beneficial to your overall health including alleviating pain, balancing your mind and have an impact on your mood.

Check out and Pin the infographic below on when and how to use essential oils:

Holiday Gift Guide for Travellers

This is such a fun accessory for a traveller. I know it seems odd with today's world of digital photos and social media, but that is the exact reason why this is such a fun product. They are instant and you can collect them and create a collage, or put them in your travel journal. They can also be used as little postcard to send to your friends.

Over the last few years Herschel has become a household name. It all started off with the backpack craze, but they soon launched their luggage line, and let me tell you it's in all traveller's wish-lists! Not only is the quality great but they have fun prints as well.  This makes for a great carry on and all the reviews speak of how roomy it is.

Travelling means lots of transiting, whether it be airplane rides, car rides, train rides or bus rides. And that means a lot listening to music. Every traveller appreciates good headphones for a great music listening experience on their trips. The great thing about these super stylish gold and white Frends Taylor Headphones is that they are fully collapsible which allows them to fit in a small clutch and come with a carry case - making them perfect for travel.

Since a lot of travellers take along their ipad because it's easier to travel with than a laptop, it's important to have a durable case. This case is not only durable and sleak, but it has a neat design.  Great to have a case that will not only withstand the wear and tear of travel, but will also look good!

It's always great to make your luggage stick out and be fun at the same time. This tag makes such a cute present! Its also a great stocking stuffer!

This is another cute gift and a super functional one. This sleep mask from J Crew would be great for a long flight or train ride.

Having a water bottle is a key necessity for a traveller and these super trendy S'well bottles are all the rave nowadays. They are super functional since they keep drinks warm for a certain amount of time and cold for a certain amount of time. Not only that, but they come in some fun colours and prints.

This is such a great gift for, not just the on the go tech savvy traveller, but, for any traveller. In the digital world we live in today, we all have so many devices that need to be charged. This charger works with iphones, ipads and other phones.  Along with the great design - the gold with the black non on it--it is ultra thin and all for a reasonable price!

Know a traveller that has been to many countries? This is such a fun gift to give an avid traveller. It's a cork board in the form of a globe where travellers can pin where they have been. Great way to keep track!

Herschel is known for their backpacks, and this backpack in particular is great for a traveller. It is the right size to use as a personal carry on and in every day life.  It has a great front pocket for easy accessibility. It is quite roomy, with the ability to fit a laptop.  It also comes in fun prints and colours.

I have travelled a lot and let me tell you, these are my life saviours when traveling. Travelling usually means a lot of walking.  A good pari of shoes is definitely something every traveller needs. Every big trip I have gone on I have bought a new pair of these. This is really high on my list when it comes to things to buy when I'm going on a trip. These also come in fun colours and styles.

This is another reasonably priced gift to give an avid travellers. All international travel requires a passport, so why not gift a fun looking passport holder?

Most travellers enjoy keeping a travel journal of some sort whilst travelling, and thats why gifting them a fun and stylish journal will make them think of you each time they write about their trip.

HASK Keratin Protein Shampoo and Conditioner Review

The good people at Hask sent over their Keratin Protein Shampoo and Conditioner. I have been trying to move towards products that are natural and contain as little chemicals as possible. Good news, this company does just that, it is sulfate and paraben free! This shampoo and conditioner is designed to help restore your lifeless hair. It uses Keratin protein, the stuff that makes up our hair, skin and nails, to calm and revive over-heated and dried out hair. It comes in a 355ml bottle for $5.99 USD.

I should mention that I don't put heat to my hair at all and that I am very low maintenance when it comes to my hair. I even ask my hair stylist to cut my hair in such a way that the cut I get grows out nicely, since I only go to the hair stylist twice a year (and that too is pushing it). In fact, I have always felt lucky that I have been able to be one of those people that could wash their hair, put some product in it (if i'm going out), and let it air dry. But I chose this Keratin protein shampoo and conditioner because its winter and you can never have enough protein!

Hask Keratin Protein shampoo and conditioner c/o Hask

Pros/why I love it

* Made my hair shine
* Light and gentle
* Light scent
* Lathers well

Cons/ you might not like it

* Not moisturizing enough for my waves/curls

Use it again?

Yes! I love to use another shampoo alongside my regular shampoo to switch things up and I think I found the balancing act with this hask product.

Products provided by Hask, however, the opinions on this post are our own. We only review products that fit with our blog and audience and provide honest opinions.

10 Things I Love About Winter

Well it's officially getting colder in Vancouver, and if you know me you will know that I do not like the cold. I know, I know, that the rest of Canada is probably laughing at me since it doesn't get as cold here as it does elsewhere in Canada. It's just that I'm more of a summer person. I prefer the long summer days with the late sunsets. Come winter you will hear me constantly complain about how cold it is and how much I wish it would stop raining!  So I decided to use this post to think more positively and list some things that I love about winter:

1. Sitting by the fireplace wrapped in a throw
2. Hot Chocolate
3. Getting to wear my sweaters and scarves - both of which I have too many of!
4. The holidays - and all the get togethers
5. Cozy nights in - warm throws and my fuzzy slippers with the fireplace on
6. All the yummy holiday and winter food
7. Touques
8. The beautiful snow on the mountains
9. Dark lips and nails

Hoodie - Forever 21
Black Leigh Jeans - Topshop
Combat Boots - Aldo - Similar
What do you love about Winter?

Friday finds

1. Without getting partisan on the issue, I think we can all feel sympathy and a sense of human connection when we look at these pictures of where Syrian refugee children sleep.

2. Time for some holiday dress shopping, here are my picks, help me out and let me know which one you guys think I should go for!

Dress 1 Dress 2 Dress 3 Dress 4 Dress 5

3. This 7 minute film by National Geographic focuses on the Apatani women of Northern-eastern India, a tribe that I shamefully didn't know even existed until coming across this link. This video tackles a local issue (the changing conception of "beauty" seen through the decrease in face tattoos and ear and nose plugs) which I feel summarizes the struggle a lot of cultures are going through to survive and preserve in this rapidly advancing world dictated by globalization.

4. We are currently really obsessed with this boardgame

5. This is a hilarious video of what foreigners think certain english terms mean in/from India.

10 Simple Ways to Improve the Quality of Your Life

I want to take you guys back to this post, remember it? I can't believe it was almost a year ago! On the blog I consciously want to continue on the trend of being honest and more open, and so I have decided to share a little bit about my year on here.

This year has been about stopping, pausing life, and focusing on myself, both mentally and physically. I was putting weight on things that were taking a toll on me like academics, mapping out a career and pleasing others.  In it all I got buried so deep that I lost a sense of myself and in a way forgot about my health and sanity.  My body gave me so many signs, but I kept on pushing through because that is what I always did. Then the beginning of this year I got hit really hard. My body and mind said no more and I found myself completely drained and burnt out. I couldn't push through anymore.

So this year has been about pausing all those things and really re-evaluating all aspects of my life. Although it's not always easy, I have been making "baby steps" and in the end I have to understand that it is a process and that too a long one. So being patient is the key in all of this. Somedays are easier than others, some tasks are easier to tackle and sometimes I am on a roll for a few weeks and then sometimes I fall off the wagon, steer off course and find everything, even the simplest of things, difficult. So I wanted to share a realistic approach. It isn't seamless and I do struggle with it on most days, but on other days it can make the difference.

My biggest takeaway has been that when all the other signs fail, depend on your body to tell you when to pause, reflect, reassess, reenergize and restart.

when all the other signs fail, depend on your body to tell you when to pause, reflect, reassess, reenergize and restart <-- click to tweet this!

I have put together a list of some of the things I have been incorporating on my journey to improve my quality of life this year. Almost all of these things were new to me and missing in my life before.

These have been my 10 simple ways to improve the quality of my life:

1. Going on brisk walks
2. Yoga
3. Eating healthier
5. Becoming more self aware
6. Incorporated relaxing techniques into routine - taking a bath, drinking tea at night, unwinding with an novel
7. Self care - taking time out for myself
8. Learning to say no
9. Going to a naturopath, going to the doctor, get the appropriate treatments and medications
10. Loosening up, not being a perfectionist and just letting go.

Como and Milan: Food Diary

You cant go to Italy and not have a food experience, its just not possible! And if you don't have one, then you did it wrong. Im a vegetarian, so already I am aware that I miss out on good food that is at times the best food representative of the country, the region or the restaurant I am visiting. But I do try to be as authentic to the place as possible when it comes to meal selections and Como and Milan were no different. This time I was lucky since my friend Kate basically told me all the food I must have and she outdid herself, because the food was amazing! (Well, its Italy, its never too hard to find good food). I have chosen 3 of my favourite meals that I had never had before:

1. Panzarotto from Luini's

These were my favourite. Panzarotti are filled pastries and we chose to have the tomato and mozzarella ones. They melt in your mouth, I cant explain how good they are, so let this be telling of their popularity and yum-ness: the queue for Luini's was down the block and around. Interestingly enough in Canada we have a "stick-it-in-the-oven" fast food equivalent called pizza pockets...but these were like infinitely better.

2. Pizzoccheri in Brunate

I was lucky to have had the chance to eat at a restaurant that overlooked the sunsetting over Lake Como, but I was even more thrilled to be trying "mountain food." Pizzoccheri is a short tagliatelle-type pasta made largely of buckwheat and less so of wheat. It is cooked with greens and potatoes, Valtellina Casera, ground Grana Padano with garlic and sage fried in butter. It was creamy and perfect, I definitely recommend the extra excursion up the funicolare to try this dish!

3. Piadina at Villa Carlotta

During our ferry journey to Villa Carlotta, we had had tea and a pastry so when we arrived at Villa Carlotta we wanted a light lunch that would give us the energy to explore the Villa and its gardens and make it to Bellagio. Kate suggested a Piadina which is a flatbread stuffed with various fillings. We ordered one which was filled with cooked eggplants, tomatoes and bell peppers and another which was a Caprese Piadina. Both were tasty. If you are ever in Italy and in the hunt for a light lunch option these are your go-to's and can be found almost anywhere in Italy.

4. Honourable mention: Pastries!

I also indulged in pastry tasting at Pasticceria Capriccio in Como. We had our own pot of tea and delighted ourselves in a wide selection of pastries including cannoncini, cannoli and beniet.

We hope you have been enjoying the Como travel series! If you have missed out on any, I have linked the Itinerary and Travel Diary.

1. CAMERA

In my opinion a camera is the perfect gift for a blogger. One key requisite for a successful blog is high quality photos and images. Having a good DSLR camera really helps in achieving this.  I was gifted my current DSLR camera and take all our blog photos with it! I know many bloggers have this as number one on their wish-list!

Some great options:
Canon EOS Rebel T5 18MP DSLR Camera With 18-55mm Lens Kit
Nikon D3300 24.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens - Black Canon PowerShot SX410 IS 40x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)

2. LENS

Along with cameras the key to great photos for blogging are important lenses.  So if the blogger in your life already has a camera - gift them a lens that they don't have!

Some great options:
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Normal Lens for Canon EF Cameras
Nikon 50mm f/1.4G SIC SW Prime AF-S Nikkor Lens

3. TABLET OR LAPTOP

This speaks for itself. It is quite obvious that for a blogger who is constantly mobile, a laptop or tablet is needed for easy blogging and just doing our job.

Some great options:
Apple iPad mini
Microsoft Surface
Apple MacBook Air

4. EXTERNAL HARDRIVE

Good external hard drives can be expensive, but a great tool for bloggers to backup all their work and images.

Some great options:
Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB Portable External Hard Drive
Seagate Backup Plus 5TB Desktop External Hard Drive

 5. PORTABLE CHARGER

We bloggers are constantly on our devices and on the go, so this is a perfect gift!

Some great options:
IOGEAR GearPower 11,000mAh Ultra Capacity Mobile Power Station
ALLPOWERS 3.5A Portable 15600mAh Power Bank External Battery Charger Pack

 6. CAMERA BAG

I'm always on the hunt for a stylish and easy-to-carry-around camera bag. With all the travelling we do and all the events we take part in, lugging around our camera means that having a nice stylish camera bag would really help!

Some great options:
ONA THE NYLON CAMPS BAY BACKPACK
ONA The Brooklyn Premium Leather Camera Satchel
Kelly Moore Thirst Relief Shoulder Bag

 7. PLANNER

A planner is a must for a blogger! From editorial calendars, to hosting giveaways and, lastly, to all the events to attend, having a physical planner keeps it all on track.

Some great options:
Lilly Pulitzer 17 Month Jumbo Agenda Planner
Kate Spade New York 17 Month Medium Agenda Planner
Ban.do 17 Month Classic Agenda

8. OFFICE ACCESSORIES

Since as bloggers we spend many hours on a desk and it's our working space, office desk accessories are always needed! And fun ones liven up the space just perfectly.

Some great options:
