An Instagram for Creative Entrepreneurs like you!

Just taking a break from our normally scheduled blog posts and bringing you over to our other job!

Instagram is where it's at! It has fast become a popular social media platform for bloggers, influencers, small business owners and Etsy shop owners.

Today I want to share with you some of the things I have learned along the way about Instagram as a social media platform and what has worked for us!

In order to succeed on Instagram you need:

  1. A Cohesive feed! That means your grid needs to look put together and cohesive, thus you need to stick to a colour palette, certain types of content, certain filters etc. In order to do this we use a style guide.  The style guide informs every aspect of our Instagram Strategy which then results in a cohesive feed. >> check out this free Instagram style guide
  2. Utilize the power of editing apps.  Instagram has lots of filter options and editing options but if you want to up your game even more then we highly recommend using editing apps!
  3. Make sure your bio is AMAZING! Your Instagram Bio can be the key piece in growing your following, traffic to your blog or even your income/sales.  >> read this blog post: how to write a kickass blog post and download the Instagram bio checklist
  4. You need to be active and engage! You cannot just post and disappear. You need to comment, like, and follow. You also need go find your target audience!

Now I understand there is so much to learn out there about so many social media platforms. But Instagram as a social media platform should really be a key piece in  your strategy to grow your business, blog, income etc.

So instead of googling and search all over the internet on how to really succeed on Instagram where you will find lots of blog posts filled with quick fixes and shortcuts (which we know don't really serve you well in the long run)

Check out the Instagram Course we have launched: Instabuzzing! Along with this blog we run a business called Buzzing Creatives, where we help creative entrepreneurs like yourself grow their business online by leveraging their online presence.

So if you are...
Tired of trying to grow your Instagram and barely seeing the number of followers change?
Tired of all your followers being just your peers and not your ideal customers?
Tired of not being able to find your target audience?
Not sure how to use Instagram to grow your sales?

Not sure how Instagram can help grow your business?
Or you might be just starting with the platform and want to learn to succeed and get it right the first time

Then INSTABUZZING is for you!
With INSTABUZZING you will learn how to make your Instagram work for you and your business. Because with the right strategies in place Instagram can be the key to growing your business as a creative entrepreneur!

So Enrol now (prices will go up in the new year) and you too can:
  • Gain targeted followers daily by implementing the strategies we did
...Not just any followers, but the right followers! That will become YOUR loyal followers and customers
  • Increase engagement (likes and comments), making organic followers and relationships with your client base
  • Use Instagram to go your business and make actual sales off of Instagram
  • Hashtag like the hashtag BOSS that you know you can be using the right hashtags to attract your ideal customers
  • Have a killer Instagram feed that is cohesive and consistent with amazing visual content, making YOU that Instagram account everyone wants to follow!

Handmade Finds October

After a little bit of a hiatus our really popular series on the blog, Handmade Finds, we have brought it back!

1. Commonsensical Spa

After becoming a parent, I became obsessed with giving my family the best start in life by limiting, and reducing our exposure to the toxins in our environment. I started making most of our personal care products and cleaning products. One year, I gifted some sugar scrubs to family for Christmas. They were such a big hit that I decided to start my own business. Since my first launch back in 2010, I've picked up a couple of partners along the way and added more products to our line.  Commonsensical Spa is a hippy but chic skincare line that nourishes and pampers the skin. We are committed to creating products that practically pamper the consumer while not taking advantage of the producers. Every effort is made to ensure that our products---from raw material to finished product--are natural and handmade, organic and fair trade.  It makes sense that our skincare products should have all these qualities. Commonsensical Spa lip balms, sugar scrubs, hard lotions, deodorants and facial cleansing oils are made fresh, by hand, and offer the most luxurious skincare experience that also doesn't break the bank. You can even sign up for a subscription for your favorite products!  Shop online at www.commonsensicalspa.com.  Follow us on Instagram (@CommonsensicalSpa) and like us on Facebook for natural living tips as well as spotlights on products and how to use them.

My October Playlist

I know October's playlist should be full of spooky songs, but its not solely the month of ghosts, vampires, witches and all things scary. You need new music for your commute home from a new semester or from work, or something to suit the changing of the weather to make the cold crisp autumn air and vista more cinematic. I have included some up-tempo pick me up songs like "Best to you" by Blood Orange and some more melancholy tracks like The Wooden sky's "Write them down." this playlist also is all over the place in terms of genre from R&B to singer/Songwriter.

5 things not to wear to the airport

Getting through airport security can be the most stressful and dreaded part of airport travel. It is always better to be prepared to make this process go smoother. Hence it's always better to wear things that will help out in the process and not complicate it more!

5 things not to wear to the airport

Things you shouldn't wear to an airport:

1. maxi dresses/ skirts

If you have to get patted down in security, you really want to avoid the security agent having to check if you are hiding anything under your skirt.

Instead wear comfortable pants, whether they are sweats/joggers (my preference, especially for long flights) or your favourite pair of relaxed denim (great for shorter flights)

2. flip flops or heels

Wearing Flip flops is not a good idea especially if you are going through security that requires you to remove your shoes, then you are forced to walk barefoot on the dirty airport floor.  To avoid this, instead wear a comfortable pair of shoes - sneakers or flats that are easily removable and easy to put back on if required. Also - flip flops or heels are not practical when you have to run to your gate, nor are they the most comfortable option!

3. lots of jewelry

there is a chance that your jewelry can set off the security alarm- metal jewelry is a major no -no. It is just best to travel light when it comes to jewelry anyways - as we mentioned before, leave your valuables at home! Jewelry is also not the easiest thing to take off quickly

4.  lot of hair pins

If you are looking to get through security with ease - then don't use too many hair accessories such as bobby pins. Instead wait till you are past security to fix up your hair and maybe try different hair elastics that will do the job.

5. bulky clothes

Bulky clothes can be a pain when it comes to security at the airport, they also can be a pain when you are having to run to your gate and you are all sweaty and uncomfortable once you get to the gate because of your bulky clothing. It's best to wear layers instead! Layers, such as long cardigans and blanket scarfs, are easy to remove at the security.

3 reasons I love fall

1. Its a new beginning
I know, usually people wait until January 1st to whip out all the "new beginning" "new resolutions" type comments and sentiments. But I don't mean it in the same way. Fall naturally feels like a new beginning as in the weather changes, the colours of the trees change, students begin a new school year with fresh syllabi and crisp, unopened text books, and you have to pull out the warmer pyjamas and actually turn on the heat!

2. Halloween
It does not matter how old I get,  I will always love Halloween. I don't even like scary movies because I find them a little bit funny but it's the one time in the year where I willingly watch them and try and get into them. I don't know what it is: the crisp air, the children being festive, carving the pumpkin or the full license to eat candies and chocolates all month long (ya I start early!). But there is something spooky about halloween, and I'm not afraid to admit it.

3. Layering up
For all that summer fashion has to offer once the weather turns the clothes just become a part of the dreamy distant summer. I have always preferred fall fashion because of the flexibility and creativity it allows with the opportunity to layer and mix and match.  Scarves, boots, touques, warm socks and gloves, the accessories options also magnify. Anything in the name of being cozy!

What are your favourite fall things?

Cucumber and Hummus Bites

Cucumber and Hummus Bites

I have always been an appetizers obsessed person.  I love making them, arranging them and then eating them.  Being in a family with a South Asian background we love our appetizers! The only thing is the appetizers are usually samosas, pakoras and sweets.  These are actually some of my favourite foods and I would say the ultimate appetizers! But whenever I can I try to be a little more health conscious about the food when hosting.  Not only have I become more health conscious when it comes to my own diet but I know that a lot of my guests probably have as well.  Now that doesn't mean I don't indulge myself with Samosas - cause trust me I do!

Cucumber and Hummus Bites

Anyways, these Cucumber and Hummus bites were perfect and fit all my criteria for appetizers: healthy, easy and quick to make, and lastly they looked really nice arranged! And guess what? They were hit with the dinner party guests we were hosting. Honestly these were gone quicker than any of the cakes and cookies we had also baked and arranged as appetizers.

Cucumber and Hummus Bites

RECIPE: Cucumber and Hummus Bites
Serves: 12 people

2 Cucumbers
1 Container of Hummus or 1 cup of Hummus
1 Cup cherry tomatoes - sliced in half
1/2 Cup Feta Cheese - crumbled

Paprika for seasoning

1. Cut the cucumbers into slices
2. Lay them out on a serving platter
3. Put about a teaspoon of hummus on each cucumber slice
4. top with some crumbled feta cheese
5. then sprinkle with some paprika seasoning (to taste, adds beautiful colour!)
6. place the sliced cherry tomatoes on top
7. Garnish with some cilantro
8. Serve and Eat!

minimalist fall style

Fall is is here! I am loving the crisp air and opportunity to wear all my cozy knits! This fall I'm really into the minimal look, lots of greys and blacks! cozy sweaters and long cardigans are always great for layering.  I am also loving the metallic skirt trend and would pair it with the adidas crew neck and some boots! I'm actually on the hunt for a bomber jacket and i always say you can never have enough scarfs!

What are some of your favourite pieces for Fall?
